In order to attract and retain content creators, Adam Mosseri announced that the platform is testing a paid subscription feature.
With the subscriptions, the Instagram aims to help the platform’s content creators “develop deeper connections with their most interested followers and increase their monthly income”.
Followers who are willing to pay for a subscription to a particular content creator will be offered exclusive content and benefits: from Lives and Storiesand even badges, only available to you. The amount payable will be set by the content creator themselves when they activate the button on their profile. To effectively support the platform’s creators, Instagram has revealed that no subscription fees will be charged until 2023.
Initially, as is the case whenever a new feature is tested, Instagram subscriptions will only be available to a limited number of content creators in the United States. However, Instagram has already announced that it intends to expand the functionality over the coming months.
